Matthew A. Willis
Philosophy.
My philosophical work largely qualifies as social epistemology or, perhaps, "socially-aware epistemology". I am largely interested in epistemic responsibility and what sorts of obligations we might have as well-mannered reasoners in a state of general uncertainty, including those epistemic obligations that we owe to one another. I also work on modeling how epistemic agents and the epistemic landscape they occupy can form a dynamic system, thus rejecting the presumption that the epistemic landscape impinges on epistemic agents without, itself, being altered by them. Data science. I have also been known to dabble in data science when I have the time. I am particularly interested in what factors contribute to the success of under-served students and what trends can be observed between the granting of undergraduate philosophy degrees and other factors (like the state of the political climate). |
